Choosing hearing care raises practical questions about coverage, appointments and what happens after a fitting. Below are clear answers from VirtuHear, a family-owned hearing clinic in downtown West Chester. If your question isn’t covered here, call us at 484-401-9585. A licensed hearing instrument specialist will be glad to help.

Does insurance cover hearing aids?

Many health plans include a hearing benefit, but coverage varies by plan, employer, network and year. Some plans contribute toward hearing aids; others cover only a hearing exam or offer a member discount. Benefits vary by plan, and we’ll check yours free before you make any decisions. See Check Your Hearing Aid Benefits.

Do you work with TruHearing, UnitedHealthcare Hearing and other hearing networks?

Many Medicare Advantage, employer and retiree plans route hearing benefits through networks such as TruHearing, UnitedHealthcare Hearing or Amplifon. Epic Hearing is part of UnitedHealthcare. If one of these names appears on your card or plan documents, call us with your member ID. We’ll confirm whether your benefit can be used with VirtuHear and explain what it may cover. We don’t guarantee coverage. Benefits vary by plan, and we’ll check yours free. Learn more on our free benefit check page.

How much do hearing aids cost?

Cost depends on the technology level, the style, and any hearing benefit your plan provides. We discuss pricing openly once we understand your hearing and your daily listening needs, so there are no surprises. If you have a hearing benefit, we apply it at the time of purchase. We also offer a price match: if you bring a comparable quote for the same device and service plan, we will match or beat it.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. You can spread the cost over 12 months with no interest. We’ll go over payment options at your appointment and answer any questions before you commit to anything.

What happens at a free hearing evaluation?

The visit starts with a conversation about your hearing concerns, health history and the situations where hearing is hardest for you. A licensed hearing instrument specialist then examines your ears and performs comprehensive hearing testing. We review the results with you in plain language. If hearing aids are appropriate, we discuss options that suit your hearing and lifestyle. If not, we tell you that too. There is no obligation to purchase.

How long does an evaluation take?

Most comprehensive evaluations take 45 minutes to an hour, depending on what your hearing needs. We don’t rush. You’re welcome to bring a family member, since a familiar voice can be useful during the visit.

Can you come to my home?

Yes. We offer free in-home hearing evaluations and hearing aid fittings across Chester County, including West Chester, Exton, Kennett Square, Downingtown, Malvern, Phoenixville, Coatesville and nearby towns. We bring portable, medical-grade equipment and follow the same process we use in the office. There is no fee for the in-home exam. In-home visits suit people who find travel or parking difficult, caregivers, and anyone who prefers a quieter setting. See In-Home Hearing Aid Fittings.

What is Remote Hearing Care?

Remote Hearing Care is a secure video appointment with your licensed hearing instrument specialist. After your comprehensive in-person exam and fitting, many adjustments to compatible hearing aids can be made remotely. You’ll need a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and an internet connection. It works well for fine-tuning, troubleshooting between visits and follow-up questions. See Remote Hearing Care.

Do you repair and clean hearing aids?

Yes. We provide professional cleanings, testing, reprogramming and part replacement (domes, tubing, battery doors) for most major styles and models. Before any repair begins, we tell you what is needed, how long it will take and what it will cost. Weak or intermittent sound, new whistling, shorter battery life or a change in fit are all good reasons to call.

Which hearing aid brands do you fit?

We fit prescription hearing aids from Signia, Phonak, Oticon and Unitron. Styles include behind-the-ear (BTE), receiver-in-the-ear (RIC), in-the-ear and completely-in-canal (CIC), in a range of colors. We recommend a device based on your test results, your ear anatomy and your daily routine, not on a single brand.

Is there a trial or adjustment period?

Yes. If you are not completely satisfied, we will issue a full refund on any device within 30 days of your fitting date. Most people need some time to adjust to amplified sound, so we schedule follow-up visits and fine-tune your settings in the office, at home or through Remote Hearing Care. Every device also includes a three-year warranty for loss and damage. We’ll explain the full terms at your fitting.

How do I find the office, and where do I park?

We are at 103 S High Street, Suite #1, West Chester, PA 19382. Use the entrance on the left side of the building, the one with the blue shutters. Inside, Suite #1 is the first door on your left. Metered street parking and public garages are nearby in downtown West Chester.

What are your hours?

We are open Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, by appointment, and closed on Sunday. Call 484-401-9585 or contact us to schedule.

Who do you see?

We see adults who have noticed changes in their hearing, people who already wear hearing aids and want a new fitting or service, and people who are concerned about tinnitus. Family members and caregivers are welcome to call on someone’s behalf. We care for patients from the borough of West Chester and throughout Chester County and Delaware County. If you are unsure whether we are the right fit, call and we will guide you.

Can I check my hearing before booking?

Yes. Our free online hearing screening takes about five minutes with headphones. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. If the results suggest a change, a free comprehensive evaluation is the next step. If you have sudden hearing loss, ear pain, drainage or dizziness, seek medical care promptly.
